He was born on December 11, 1961, in Fatick, Senegal. Before assuming the presidency, Sall held various ministerial positions, including Minister of Mines, Energy, and Hydraulics under President Abdoulaye Wade’s administration.
Sall was a member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) but later founded his own political party, the Alliance for the Republic (APR), in 2008. He served as the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2007 and then became the President of the National Assembly from 2007 to 2008.
In the 2012 presidential election, Macky Sall defeated Abdoulaye Wade, who was seeking a controversial third term, and was subsequently elected as President of Senegal. He was re-elected for a second term in 2019, following a keenly contested election.
During his presidency, Sall has focused on various initiatives aimed at economic development, infrastructure improvements, and social welfare programs in Senegal. He has also been involved in regional diplomacy, advocating for stability and cooperation within West Africa
